Runner with a Heart - Let's Support Maple Tree Foundation

You see, there are some runners who really run for a cause. I once mentioned before that I will only run those races with the purpose of helping those in need. So goes the Run for Sight, Run for Bebe, Heart's Run and so on and so forth... all of these race I missed. I even missed the race for Cancer Awareness last year... I opted to let my Kumpare Boying run for my mom who passed away due to CA.

But I did ran for a cause! The latest was the Kapamilya Run 2010. And even if I am a certified Kapuso, I joined this race because it was for a cause.

Speaking of runners with pledges, I can see their motive... their purpose... their commitment... not just for running for also for helping.

Let me highlight a fellow Dailymiler Kassy Pajarillo. I read her blog and was kinda envy that she joined Jaymie Pizarro's TBR Dream Marathon. But I was more focused on her pledge to help the needy. I can see that she a runner with a heart. And I would like to support her cause in whatever way I can. And if I have some resources, it won't harm to pitch in some for her cause....

Here's a repost from her blog: Flexitarian Runaholic Diary

On 5 December 2010, I will be running a FULL MARATHON (42.2 km) in the Standard Chartered Marathon – Singapore in order to raise money for the Maple Tree Foundation. Although it will be a challenge for me to complete my first destination marathon race, I will be especially motivated by the excitement of knowing that it will benefit such a worthy cause.
I am asking friends and family to consider sponsoring me for this event. I have two ambitious goals – first to complete the marathon without sustaining any bodily harm and second to meet my personal goal of raising Php 10,000 – Php 100,000 for the Maple Tree Foundation (100%). I would greatly appreciate your kind consideration by making a donation towards this goal. All other form of donations (sponsorship) is, of course, well appreciated.
Being a runner, I wanted to take the opportunity to help my fellow citizen as this is one of my life goals- to help those who are in need. I believe in Maple Tree Foundation vision which is to help deprived and underserved mountain communities live healthy, productive, and peaceful lives with sustainable resource development programs that provide basic services, livelihood development, and education. For this, they need not to stay as less privilege citizen around Manila believing it will make their lives easier, well in fact, in their home town they can live comfortably and be educated.
You can make a difference . . . please join me in supporting a very important cause. Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Kassy

To Kassy,
Good luck in your quest for the Standard Chartered Marathon! Good luck in your cause!

Random scenes while running my first 15K race

Just like what I said, I am a Kapuso. But I must agree with Doc Ling in her comment in my previous post that "Wala kay Kapamilya kung wala kay Kapuso". So I did ran donning the Kapamilya singlet while at the back of my mind I wanted to wear a Nike singlet which I bought at my fave mall for a cheap price... but well, I was prepared for this race. For this is my first official 15K race.

Here are some random scenes and thoughts that happened before, during and after the race:

    \
  •  I was working last night. I was on half-day CTO (compensatory time off). Had to leave the office at 4am to meet some fellow runners of the ARC (Accenture Running Club).
  •  finally met with fellow dailymiler -- Popoy and Tine, Richard, Sir Jerry Chua, and others nga nakalimot ko. :-)
  • was able to pace, ran and greeted Atty. Haide Acuna of ABS-CBN (she's a star! - nahulog intawn iya water bottle)
  • first taste of Hammer Gel Apple Cinnamon flavor.... didn't quite like it. mas maayo pa ang saging namo and Cloud 9 chocolate :-)
  • clocked 1:48:36 in my first 15K race
  • route was OK... did Chi Running in some uphill roads like Escario, Banawa, Jones, Gorordo
  • the ice-cold 100 Plus drink at the Jones water station was thirst-quenching (Jerry Ano had to pour some on his head and he said that his sweat tasted sweet. haha!)
  • saw a CRRC veteran runner who made a shortcut. funny guy!
  • Jerry,  Leo Ironman Mitch Jala and I were laughing our ass off when Jerry uttered these words, "oi katorse minutes nalang 1 hour 30mins nata.". that time we were pacing... but we had to stop and walk because we were all laughing at each other....
  • I saw fellow Ungo Runners running 15K too... too bad I still don't have my Ungo shirt (calling Max Limpag!!!
  • had a photo op with Leo Lastimosa of TV Patrol Central Visayas
  • took some shots of ACT (Association of Concerned Texters Inc). and guess what, most of the members are actually older than me... I'd say they're text addicts but helped in organizing as well.... they were specially mentioned by the hosts. great job!
  • ABS-CBN made a good decision to get RunCheck to organize this event. RunCheck did an organized run again! Congrats RunCheck.

I am proud to share this day to my fellow ARC members who endured their first 15K... Xyrus Ba-ad and Jaymarl Padreganda... the 3 of us clocked less than 2hours. Also, Jack Morilla, Jerry Ano, Franz Dakoykoy and Weng Asis also finished their 15K.

Of course, Nikia did a great job this morning. She never failed to amaze me with her performance on the road. It's just sad that Aijeigh wasn't there to celebrate this feat with me and Nikia. :-(

Next stop? HALF-MARY!!!

A Kapuso to be a Kapamilya Runner

Yeah. You read it right! I am a Kapuso. Having been trained in 1998 at GMA-7 Cebu as a Masscom Intern. Maybe I am biased. But it's ok. Tomorrow, I will participate an ABS-CBN - the 10th DYAB Kapamilya Run.

The news says this run is for their classroom project. That made me decide to ran. And aside from that, this will be the  first 15K run for me and Nikia. So we're  pretty excited. I'll post some pics after the event.

All I know is this: it doesn't matter if you are a Kapuso or a Kapamilya... as long as you have the heart and mind and the soul to reach for those who need. We will be all runners... together in this goal.

See you tomorrow!

The Cartoon Experience

I must admit, I was excited to join the Looney Tunes Run last Saturday. But days before that, I was really furious with the Timex salesladies (see Pissed Off story!).

Anyway, come race day, I was really early.... say 5mins before 4am. I took Mikaela with me and we took shots of Tweety, Bugs and Silvester and Taz. I had fun....

Well, I met fellow Ungo runner Teddy and his wife Belle. We had to share some insights about call center life, running + Ungo, photography + Canon vs Nikon, and other stuff. But he didn't ran. Belle ran for 5K.

And the gun went off with Noy Jopson upfront. I ran for 10k with Nikia. Twas my 3rd 10K and Nikia's second official race.

Well, I made a new PR for my 10K ran clocking at 1:01:55.

After the race, I took some photos again -- I saw some well-known running bugs like Max Limpag (who didn't ran because he was there to give moral support to his kid who ran the 500m dash) and Doc Reel (I was able to catch up with him and .gave him a goodluck tap on his arm).

Of course, who would not miss Twinkle herself... this time, she dressed up as a bunny.

And the kids??? Ahh.... they were soooo freakin cute!!!!!

Anyway, cheers to another well-organized race. Runcheck was there to support the race too.

Well done Katol. Well done Nikia. Hats off to both of you!

Next stop: DYAB Kapamilya Run (Sunday, June 13, 2010).

Pissed off!!!!

Sometimes, when you are working in the customer service industry you also expect the same level of customer satisfaction when you became the customer yourself.

Here's the scenario: in my previous post I was expressing my  excitement to participate in the Looney Tunes Run this Saturday. But actually the singlet that I got was a medium size one. Too fit for me and I feel like a stuffed hotdog. But the peeps from Timex Ayala promised me to go back today and get my large singlet as replacement. But unfortunately, the salesgirl (not the person in charge of the registration) told me that she forget to tell the POC about my singlet. It was an outrage! I felt duped!

I can recall that she was the one who handed me the singlet and PROMISED me to get back today to get a replacement. But when I arrived, she just says the one most abused Bisdak word we always say.. "AMBOT!". toink.

Good thing I maintained my composure and ask her politely when and what time will I be back so I can get the large one. She says the person in charge (POC) is "comming na daw". So I decided to go to  Runnr hoping they are still on sale. But unfortunately the sale ended yesterday. Sayang jud!

After a while, I decided to go back to Timex hoping the POC is there already but to no avail. And the sad part was, they want me to go back at 1pm because for sure the POC will be there. I told them (this time starting to make my point!) that I just got out from my shift at 9am and waited for one hour for the mall to open just to get to Timex for my singlet. This is the same thing I told them yesterday.

But still the saleslady uttered those abused words "Ambot Sir uy, what time jud to moanhi. But niingon man to nga padung na daw". So I told them back that I cant afford to wait because Im tired and I havent had sleep yet. But another saleslady even interrupted with me and said, "wala man mi mahimo ana sir."

WTF! the mere fact that I am the customer here and they are at fault because they forget to inform the POC about my singlet and ako na hinuon ang agrabyado!!!!

I asked if i can get my reimbursement and they said yes. But as soon as the POC will arrive. F*ck! they are not even apologetic with what happened.

Now here's my problem: modagan ko or dili? Murag nawad-an nako ug gana ba. This is more or less the same experience I had during the distribution of singlets for the Great Lapu-lapu Run 2. Disorganized kaayo! Wa pa gani kasugod! and by god, it's freakin P400!!!!!

modagan nalang ko sa Kapamilya Run 2010 kay makatabang pako sa Bantay Bata 163 and ABS-CBN Foundation maski Kapuso ko by heart!!!

To those 2 salesladies down at Timex Ayala??? Get a life!!!
