Ungo Runners Think Pink

The Ungo Run last night had a different twist -- same color but with a different taste. Ungo Runners donned their new t-shirts courtesy of Ayala Center Cebu. At the back it says, “Ungo Runners Think Pink”. Yes! We Ungo Runners think Pink not just because it is our official color but it’s also our cause.

Ayala Center Cebu sponsored the Think Pink campaign and is now on its third year. This collaboration is also made possible thru the Rotary Club and Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente and also with the ICanServe Foundation Cebu Chapter headed by Ms. Mary Anne Alcordo-Salomon.  The Ungo Runners were honored to be part of this campaign.

Pre-Run Motivational Spreaker

Raul Cepeda
We had the usual motivational speeches before the run. Our motivational speaker is no stranger in the running community. Raul Cepeda shared his stories about how he gets into being fit and healthy at the age of 77. Yes – 77 freakin’ years! And he’s been drinking papaya juice all this time saying it is his own anti-oxidants.
At 77, Raul Cepeda was the oldest runner to register in the 34th Milo Marathon Cebu Eliminations held last month. He ran a Pikermi! But guess what, he doesn’t want to stop there. He says he will be running his first ever full Marathon come CCM 2011. Amazing!

I Run for Life

Me'anne and Joy
Me’anne Alcordo-Salomon graced the post-run activity and shared her story as a breast cancer patient and her passion in empowering other breast cancer patients now as a breast cancer survivor.  She shared a very inspiring video. See video in this link.

Missing Mom

Watching the video was very heart-warming for me and I’ve been teary-eyed as I get to see the courage of those survivors in the images. Suddenly my Kumpare Boying Milan tapped my shoulder and said, “I ran for your mother…” Indeed, he ran for my mom the late Rev. Sally Villagante in last year’s October Pink Run. Thanx again Boying!

After the activity, I approached Maam Me’anne and shook her hand and said thanks. I had a short chat with her and Ms. Joy Polloso and shared the story about my mom. I thanked them for organizing this campaign.

Photo-ops

Again, of course, nothing can stop the Ungo Runners to smile and be crazy during the pictorials.  And just like in my previous posts, there are only two things that will make the Ungo Runners go crazy or silent: Food and Photo-Ops. Cheers to the Ayala Center Cebu for sponsoring this event and for sharing food courtesy of Max’s Restaurant.

We Think Pink!
Sightings

TTB Rocks!
Members of TeamTytsBogdo were also there to join the campaign. Although we didn’t run and we tagged ourselves as part of the “injured” list, we were still able to make quite a few photos together and just have fun.

TTB Sightings: Richard (our official chauffer for the event); Coach Boying who donned his Milo 42K Finishers Singlet; Christian who always wear that great smile; Bogdonator Eric who can’t get his offense on the sweetytums; KingBogdo Jorge and sweetytums Ramonita; Coleen who was always ready to run and pose at the same time; Richelieu and Katol took part as the PhotoBogdos of the event.

The RH Runners and SK Runners were also there as always.

Think Pink

We shall continue to wear Pink. We shall continue to do our part. As runners, we will be running for life. Next week, all Ungos are encouraged to bring a friend and turn them into an Ungo.  See you there!

Certified Trail Runner

Yes! I'm already a certified Trail Runner after I finished 2:23:10 in this morning's Thrill of the Trail Bohol sponsored by The North Face. Dailymilers, Ungo, RH and TTB Runners converged as one team as we conquer the trail at E.A.T. Danao in Bohol.

As it was our first, some of us treated it as a fun trail run. We didn't mind about the pace, the covered and remaining distance, the heat, the river crossing, the muddy and slippery rice fields and all things you encounter in a trail run.  Most of us ran 11K while a few ran 22K.

Our goal this morning was, of course, to finish the race but we actually ended up doing an extensive documentation. I was holding Coleen's camera throughout the race and took pictures of fellow runners while Doc King2x and Adz also had their share of 500 plus images. Master Photographer Estan did his part by  running with us in the first few kilometers and took some shots. He was just wearing sports sandals yet he survived the slippery and muddy trail.

We passed through corn and rice fields, slippery and muddy trails (it rained the night before!) and crossed two rivers. We saw a few Chocolate Hills and took some shots too. We run, walk and fell on our butts, but we never failed to smile whenever there is a camera. We just had fun!

I have prepared for this event. I got my hydration bag, first aid kit, and my VFF Flow Phalangging. I was supposed to wear my VFF on the last stretch of the trail. But I was more challenged by fellow TTB Coleen who took off her shoes and ran with her socks on the cemented after crossing the first river. I followed suit after crossing the second one and we both ran from KM9 to the finish line with our Runnr socks. We raised the Ungo Banner as we cross the finish line.

Our first trail run was indeed one hell of an experience. We reached the finish line with our heads held up high and we are just proud to say that we are already Certified Trail Runners.

Thank you to the Dailymilers, Ungo, RH, Team Yellow Jersey (thank you Manny for the jersey!) and TTB guys for the fun, the laughter and the cheers, the motivations and encouragements, and to The North Face Thrill of the Trail Bohol Event Organizers headed by Race Director Dax Ang for the well-organized race and for the wonderful experience!

Trail Running Virgins No More!

The extensive documentation was made possible the efforts of Doc King2x and Adz, Coleen, Master Photographer Estan Cabigas and Mikaela. Photos are available in this link and check out the other album courtesy of FitandRun.info

Food + Camera = Ungo Fun

KAON + CAMERA = UNGO FUN!

to quote Bikik: "Cargo-loading Party"

Fact # 1: FOOD can make an Ungo go silent!

Fact # 2: A CAMERA can also make an Ungo go silent!

Of course, Friday nights won't be complete without our Motivational Speakers.
Our very own Cebu Elites:
Ms. Annie Neric and Doc Reel Bontol of Team Reborn
who recently braved the Iron 70.3 Cobra Philippines. We are proud of you guys!
Master Ungo Max Limpag gave some final instructions for
tomorrow's Milo race.
Ungo Ladies.... and... Gentlemen

nya model-model daun sa Ungo Tarpaulin.

look... I'm wearing my 2-day old VFF Flow!

of course, the night will not be over without the power of Red Horse!
I had fun with the RH Runners and a few Ungo peeps having some drinks at Papa Ross Grill.

For the complete photos, please see this link via my Picasaweb and click on Slideshow.

Good luck to all Ungo Runners, TTB and RH Runners on the 34th National Milo Marathon Cebu Eliminations.
Let's get those medals!!!

Loyal will we be to Silliman

Jack and Katol after running 10K.
Loyal will we be to Silliman.
Here's a cheer, boys three times three
Silliman our Alma Mater
Silliman beside the sea.

We sang this second stanza of the Silliman Song before Pastor Haniel Taganas prayed for the sucess of the first ever Silliman Run 2010 - Run to Educate. This run was made possible by the Silliman University Cebu Alumni Association Inc.

Nikia and I ran 10K again. This time I paced with good friend Jack Morilla in the first 2kms of the race. I felt heavy so I slowed down a bit. The race was great... especially when I was on my last 2kms, I did saw some friends running on the other side of the road (and from the other race - Aboitiz Race to Reduce).

I saw Doc Izzy aka Fafa Fiolow and then Max Limpag of Ungo. The rest of the TTB runners followed: Eric, Charles and Chaho pacing together, Ken8, Coleen, Doc Tata, Micke, Doc King2x and Adz. RH Runners were there too.

Well, all of these guys were running their half-mary and some of them had their new PRs. As for me, I chose to ran for the Race to Educate as a support to the scholarship program of our alumni association. Our alumni president Siegfred Sia and the rest of the organizers did a great job in putting up this race inspite of the competing race in the different side of the city.

After the race, I also saw some familiar faces from Silliman University - long lost friends, batchmates and contemporaries. It was a reunion of some sort for all Cebu-based alumni as we also celebrate our 109th Founder's Day.

I am proud to be a Sillimanian. Loyal shall we e'er remain.

I brought Mikaela with me so we took some post-race photos: Silliman Run 2010
