Loyal will we be to Silliman

Jack and Katol after running 10K.
Loyal will we be to Silliman.
Here's a cheer, boys three times three
Silliman our Alma Mater
Silliman beside the sea.

We sang this second stanza of the Silliman Song before Pastor Haniel Taganas prayed for the sucess of the first ever Silliman Run 2010 - Run to Educate. This run was made possible by the Silliman University Cebu Alumni Association Inc.

Nikia and I ran 10K again. This time I paced with good friend Jack Morilla in the first 2kms of the race. I felt heavy so I slowed down a bit. The race was great... especially when I was on my last 2kms, I did saw some friends running on the other side of the road (and from the other race - Aboitiz Race to Reduce).

I saw Doc Izzy aka Fafa Fiolow and then Max Limpag of Ungo. The rest of the TTB runners followed: Eric, Charles and Chaho pacing together, Ken8, Coleen, Doc Tata, Micke, Doc King2x and Adz. RH Runners were there too.

Well, all of these guys were running their half-mary and some of them had their new PRs. As for me, I chose to ran for the Race to Educate as a support to the scholarship program of our alumni association. Our alumni president Siegfred Sia and the rest of the organizers did a great job in putting up this race inspite of the competing race in the different side of the city.

After the race, I also saw some familiar faces from Silliman University - long lost friends, batchmates and contemporaries. It was a reunion of some sort for all Cebu-based alumni as we also celebrate our 109th Founder's Day.

I am proud to be a Sillimanian. Loyal shall we e'er remain.

I brought Mikaela with me so we took some post-race photos: Silliman Run 2010

Silliman Run 2010

My Alma Mater, Silliman University will celebrate its 109th Founder's Day Celebration on August 28. While our fellow Sillimanians will have their merry-making in the Campus by the Sea in Dumaguete City, here in Cebu, Sillimanians will celebrate our own by participating in the Silliman Run 2010.

According to family friend Ms. PQ Cafe of Visayas Community Medical Center, the Silliman Run 2010 will be on Sunday, August 22 and will start and finish at the Ayala Terraces. The race have 3K, 5K and 10K distances and the registration is pegged at P250. The runner gets singlet, race bib, a certificate and painit along with photo ops with fellow Sillimanians. This fun run will help raise funds for educational scholarships.

So if you are a Sillimanian or a friend of one, let's run this August. Nikia and I will definitely run for Silliman!

Here's a short fact about my Alma Mater:

Silliman University (also referred to as Silliman or SU) is a Christian private research university located in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Philippines. Established in 1901 by American missionaries, it was the first Protestant and American private school to be founded in the country. The University is named after Dr. Horace Brinsmade Silliman, a retired businessman and philanthropist from Cohoes, New York who gave the initial sum of $10,000 to start the school. For the first half of the 20th century, Silliman was run and operated by Americans. After the Second World War Filipinos began to assume more important positions culminating in the appointment of Silliman's first Filipino president in 1952.

Today, the University comprises ten colleges, four schools, and two institutes, enrolling approximately over 8,700 students from different parts of the Philippines and over 26 foreign countries. It is registered as a National Landmark by the National Historical Institute, and is one of few private higher education institutions in the Philippines that have been granted autonomy by the Commission on Higher Education. In a report released by the Professional Regulation Commission and the Commission on Higher Education which covered a ten-year period, Silliman was ranked 4th in the country following three schools of the University of the Philippines. It is also ranked among the top 150 universities in Asia in International Students' Review by the QS Quacquarelli Symonds, an institution that ranks the world's top universities. (from Wikipedia)

Energizer Nite Race -- this time I will be a Kapuso!

Oh yeah! This time I will be a Kapuso Runner. The Energizer Nite Race will hit Cebu City on July 10, 2010. They will be in partnership with the GMA-7 Kapuso network. I believe this race will be exciting especially to all Ungo Runners like myself. Night running has a different feel and a different mood and pace. Imagine running without the sun! So, if you haven't tried it, better hit the road on that nite! See you then mga Ungo!

Nikia and I will try to get a new PR for 10K... wooohooo!!!

The Cartoon Experience

I must admit, I was excited to join the Looney Tunes Run last Saturday. But days before that, I was really furious with the Timex salesladies (see Pissed Off story!).

Anyway, come race day, I was really early.... say 5mins before 4am. I took Mikaela with me and we took shots of Tweety, Bugs and Silvester and Taz. I had fun....

Well, I met fellow Ungo runner Teddy and his wife Belle. We had to share some insights about call center life, running + Ungo, photography + Canon vs Nikon, and other stuff. But he didn't ran. Belle ran for 5K.

And the gun went off with Noy Jopson upfront. I ran for 10k with Nikia. Twas my 3rd 10K and Nikia's second official race.

Well, I made a new PR for my 10K ran clocking at 1:01:55.

After the race, I took some photos again -- I saw some well-known running bugs like Max Limpag (who didn't ran because he was there to give moral support to his kid who ran the 500m dash) and Doc Reel (I was able to catch up with him and .gave him a goodluck tap on his arm).

Of course, who would not miss Twinkle herself... this time, she dressed up as a bunny.

And the kids??? Ahh.... they were soooo freakin cute!!!!!

Anyway, cheers to another well-organized race. Runcheck was there to support the race too.

Well done Katol. Well done Nikia. Hats off to both of you!

Looney Tunes Run - New PR!!!

New PR for me

woohooo!!! Nikia and I are so happy today as we ran for 5K together in the Run 4 Q: First Call Center Run. I clocked 29:19 making it a new PR for me. I usually clocked 30ish minutes. And yet, it's just my meal break. After the race, I had to race again but this time, back to the office to finish my shift. :-)

After my shift, I went to Timex Ayala to get my Looney Tunes race kit. Too bad there are no large sizes available when I went there. That means I need to change my medium size to large by tomorrow. Of course I dont want to look like a stuffed hotdog running on the road. :-)

Nikia will be excited to ran with Bugs Bunny and Taz...

And oh, my race # is 2256. Imagine that! and yes, it's gonna be 10K this time baby!

See you on the road...

Nikia is ready for her second race this Sunday

Oh yeah. she's ready. Nikia is ready for this Sunday's Run 4 Q. Even if she will just be running for 5K (instead of the original plan of 10K -- this will be a mealbreak run!), she is ready for her second race after the infamous SRP Sundown Run. She debuted with 10K there but this time, she will just ran with 5K... and with an attitude! :-)
